"A girl should be two things: who and what she wants." - Coco Chanel

It’s been about two weeks since I bought the ‘The Gospel According to Coco Chanel: Life Lesson’s from the World’s Most Elegant Woman’ by Karen Karbo and I must say I absolutely love it! Filled with practical life lessons for women of all ages, this self-help book has become part of the many books that I turn to for advice and encouragement! Flicking through the pages of the book, the quote above really stood out for me as it summed up the mantra that I live by. The quote speaks of being yourself, empowerment and most importantly, self-determination.

Self-determination. The word that pretty much keeps me going whenever I feel like giving up or doubting myself. I’ve had many instances where I have been discouraged by so-called friends, teachers and outsiders whether it was to do with passing my GCSEs, chosen career path, or personal ventures. At times I’ve doubted myself and questioned ‘Is this really for me?’ or ‘Am I capable of getting where I want to be in life despite my present position?’ I have always been someone who is determined to achieve the goals I set myself, whether personal or otherwise. I’m not saying it has been easy because I tell you, majority of the time it hasn’t! But, I’ve come to the realisation that if I want something in life I need to stop dwelling on who, what, when, why and how; and just get up and start doing! So whatever it is your going through in life, remember that you are more than capable of being who and what you want to be in life, don’t let circumstances stop you from achieving your goals as you reap the benefits of whatever you sow in life.
